Magdalene Review an Emergent blog?

Apr 1st, 2006 by Lesa Bellevie in Blogroll

According to the 2006 Yearbook of American and Canadian Churches, as cited by Church Executive Magazine (“Late Breaking News”), my blog is one of those that “are used by Emergent Church practitioners for communication.”

This comes as a complete surprise to me, as it possibly will to a few of the other owners of blogs listed. I first heard about the Emergent movement a few months ago, and although i find the whole concept fascinating, I haven’t run out to my friendly neighborhood Emergent Church to sign up. I’m rather curious about what criteria were used to compose this list and how MR came to be on it. It isn’t offensive in the least, only inaccurate.

Long live the Internet.

Update (04/02/06): I forgot to mention that I discovered the above at Carmen Andres’ blog, In The Open Space: God & Culture ( 04/01/06, “The Blog and the Emergent Church”).

  • FWIW: It’s a bit like getting on a search engine or a trade directory, Lesa. It just happens.

But, by definition, emergent movements are casting old paradigms aside – that is what makes them emergent. I would say, at best guess, that quite a number of neo-Christian sects have an intense interest in what is posted here, and a minority of them are probably predicating a lot of their canon on what they perceive people to believe, or want to believe, about Mary.

Now that you are “in the book”, as it were, expect more registered blog members !

  • consider it a compliment and a good sign. emergent is not an organization to join. Visa is an emergent company (and not a bank) and if people access your site for whats up with the emerging church, then fantastic.

  • Well, I have nothing against the Emergent philosophy. If people taking a new approach to Christianity find my blog useful, well, I do count that as a good thing. It just isn’t necessarily where I’m coming from. :-)
